Our Story

Phakamani Young Minds Academy is a non-profit organisation with a PBO status, and it was established in February 2014 by Bokang Mokoena at the age of 19 years. Mr Bokang Mokoena had it close to his heart for youth development programmes.

The organisation came into existence with the objective of gathering and empowering young people around Freedom Park and aid them with academic assistance, provide services such as homework supervision, exam preparations, extra mural activities to enhance personal development and for all young people and creating a safe after school environment for children and Youth.

By starting PYMA, Mr Mokoena realised that the latter not only needed the services but also needed to be assisted holistically. This became the time when the organisation started providing mentorship, career guidance to young people throughout their schooling career from their foundation phase up to their final years of secondary schooling. And looking at avenues to creating a space for work readiness for all our past grade 12 learners and volunteer tutors. The organisation came into existence because the latter wanted to render scarce services around the community for young people and these services include, providing access to post-school opportunities for Grade 8-12, learnerships and employment opportunities as well as work readiness skills and knowledge for Out of School Youth (OSY) aged 18-25 years.

Our Purpose, Mission And Vision

PURPOSE

We seek to develop the potential of young minds to enable their movement toward self-sustainable individuals.

MISSION

We bridge the skills development gap between those young minds who are willing but have no means and those who have means and are willing to provide educational support.

VISION

To empower young minds to become responsible, independent and active members of society.

“PYMA believes in each Young Minds potential, regardless of their family circumstances. We want every young mind to do the best that they can, for only with a solid foundation in education can our young minds pursue limitless opportunities.”
