The mentor and mentee will likely learn new things about themselves and each other that will help them move toward career goals. The mentee’s role is to absorb knowledge and have the desire to use it in attaining his or her career goals. Mentors offer support and guidance to their mentees and also aid them to develop new skills and experience. Through this process, there is a need to build rapport and also ensure reciprocity from both parties.
As a PYMA mentor, our team will ensure that they are able to pair you with the mentee based on demographics, preferences and profession. We will also share tools and resources that will allow you to be successful in your mentorship journey. All our mentors also get the opportunity to attend quarterly mentorship meetings and through these, there is an opportunity to learn from other mentors and share experiences.
A Mentor can build a good relationship with a mentee through using a vast plethora of strategies. Mentors need to develop strong and lasting connections with their mentees, setting SMART goals and staying in touch through constant communication, being committed to the programme. We also advise our mentors enrolled in the programme to check on their mentees each week, utilise our themed quarter resources that aid a lot in the attainment of set goals, and connect mentees to any relevant post school opportunity or people within your network.
In order for our Programmes Team to finalise the pairing process, we require the following documentation from the mentor:
- A short Biography of yourself, for developing Mentor and Mentee Profiles
- A Professional Picture,
- One short quote/motivational message
- Contact Number in order for you to be added in our Mentorship WhatsApp Groups.
Based on flexibility/commitments of the mentor and mentee, both parties should set the meeting time and date. More so, it is pertinent to ensure that mentors communicate with their mentees based on the set schedule. No physical meetings are allowed outside of the PYMA premises. All mentors and mentees should send requests for physical meeting at our centre in time, we will then arrange that as soon as possible.
